National Gallery of Ireland: The Birds of Assisi
National Gallery of Ireland: The Birds of Assisi
A set of two stained glass pins inspired by Harry Clarke's The Mother of Sorrows (1926) - made exclusively for the National Gallery of Ireland.
These stained glass pins are 30mm high with black plating, cut out sections and transparent enamel.
When I was looking at which sections of the window I wanted to draw from, I immediately fell in love with the little green bird that stands out so sharply against the brown robes of St Francis. I didn’t spy the dark blue one hiding beside it until I looked up the details later online.
I knew I wanted to make a two part set that was more playful than the elaborate figures, and this pair is made to be arranged around an outfit. The central forms of the birds are solid enamel, while the transparent panels are reserved for their moving wings.
