Drop A Pin: Cork: R&H Hall

Drop A Pin: Cork: R&H Hall
Drop a Pin: Cork is a series made in collaboration with Al Dalton of Notes to Cork. It's a celebration of landmarks from our native city, and a tribute to the details that make a place feel like home. Those places you pass every day, touchstones you grow attached to, and would miss ~ if they were to disappear.
A day will come when someone will ask,
What did it stand for
R and H Hall?
And we will pause,
And try to remember
How tall?
What was its purpose -
When did it fall?
It didn't quite fall
but stood alone above the town,
Until taken down,
Bit by bit.
A relic in our city
built on river industry.
A marker of our trade and import.
A concrete vessel that contained the ghosts of dockers,
shippers and Stevedores.
The people of our city -
Did you not call for it to stand still?
- Yes.
But time moves on,
and what was concrete,
Turns to rubble.
Then gone.
And The Great Hall
becomes a pin in memorial.
