Once Upon an Island: Cape Clear
Once Upon an Island: Cape Clear
Made for the 30th year of the Cape Clear Storytelling Festival ๐
This festival and place are very significant to me, and this design was one of the most challenging as a result. I've gone every year for the past 6 years, and there's something genuinely magical about the weekend that feels like it stretches far beyond 2 days, and how I can't fully remember it all until I'm back again. Last year someone pointed out how part of the magic is in leaving the mainland and everything else behind with it. I've tried to reverse that idea with this design ~ that it's something of the island you can keep with you on your return to the mainland.
The pin's central image is the view of the island as you approach on the ferry, and the raised illustrations feature flora and fauna from Cape Clear. It also features my handwriting, along the border that's the same silhouette as the festival's logo.
I dedicate this pin to the memory of Eoin Murray who first discovered the festival, and in whose memory his friends (and their friends) have been attending since 2015.
